Roots Established on Long Island, NY - 1643

Back in 1643, John Carman and Reverend Robert Fordham left a small settlement in Connecticut to negotiate the first real estate transaction between settlers and Native Americans. They returned with a signed compact for 65,000 acres on Nassau County. Eleven generations later, Carman, Callahan & Ingham LLP was founded.

Judge Willis B. Carman, Sr. - The "Judge" - was born in Amityville, 1901. After being part of Farmingdale High School's first graduating class, he attended and graduated from Fordham University, married Marjorie Sosa, and then opened his law practice. He rented a small office in the same building that he would later purchase and

renovate himself.

Judge Carman served his community in many ways, including being an elected judge, founder of the Sunrise Federal Savings and Loan Association, member of the board of directors, and the bank's legal counsel for 50 years. He became a real estate expert and diligently maintained his law practice until his death in 1985.
